James Ferguson to lead UK Scout Contingent to Roverway in 2016

James Ferguson, aged 22, from Wetheral has been appointed by The Scout Association as deputy contingent leader for the UK for Roverway 2016. Roverway is a European gathering of 16 to 22 year old Scouts and Guides. The event, which is held every 4 years, will take place in southern France from 3 to 14 August 2016.

James attended Roverway in Finland in 2012 as a participant along with thousands of young people from across Europe and all over the world.

James said,OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Roverway is a fantastic opportunity to meet people from around the world and to learn from other cultures, it was brilliant when I took part as a participant in 2012.
It is now a great honour to be leading the UK Contingent to France in 2015 and to be able to help to provide this opportunity for young people from around the UK.”

Roverway is a 9 day event that includes activities and camping but is not your typical international camp.

Not only does it bring together Scouting and Guiding members from the length and breadth of Europe, but participants will spend the first half of the trip on one of a number of ‘paths’. Each path is different – with themes ranging from back-to-basics and forest hikes to urban cultural excursions – and all paths are experienced in small international units. The second stage is a camp which lasts for the rest of the event where all participants come together.

James added,

“I hope that lots of Scouts & Guides from Cumbria will apply to be part of this amazing adventure, young people can register their interest at scouts.org.uk/roverway.
